AUDITORIUM: A CASE STUDY ON ACOUSTIC DESIGN

PROJECT 1:

PUTRAJAYA INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE (PICC)

An auditorium is a special room built to enable an audience to hear and watch performances at venues such as theatres and music halls. For movie theatres, the number of auditoriums is expressed as the number of screens. Auditoriums can be found in entertainment venues, community halls and theatres; and may be used for rehersals, presentations or performing art productions. Apart from entertainment, an auditorium is also used as a space for speech delivery - such as lecture theatres. A successful auditorium design greatly depends on its acoustic design, including the auditorium layout and absorption materials used. It is essential to preserve and enhance the desired sound, and to eliminate noise and undesired sounds.

OBJECTIVE

In a group, students are to conduct a case study on an auditorium locally. It is going to be an observe and report case study. Each group needs to get permission from the responsible personnel of the building.

PROJECT 2

COMMUNITY LIBRARY: JALAN TUANKU ABDUL RAHMAN

This project aims to integrate students' understanding of the principles of lighting design in the context of their final design project of studio 05. It will encompass on artificial and daylighting systems, as well as implement the PSALI design strategies.

OBJECTIVES

  • To show understanding of artificial lighting and daylighting strategies (PSALI) in their final design.

  • To solve design problems in relation to sustainability issues.

  • To design spaces incorporating artificial and daylighting (when necessary).

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Each student is to identify two significant spaces in their final design to implement artificial and daylighting strategies (PSALI).
